Frank Burkhardt (Fraunhofer IIS)
Subnetworks in 6G
Frank Burkhardt, received his Dipl.-Ing. degree in electrical engineering from Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) in 2001. He joined Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS (IIS) that same year. Over the years, he has worked in the fields of software defined radio systems, satellite communication, radio channel measurement, and channel modeling.
Since the beginning of 2019 he has held the position as group manager of the Industrial Communications Group at IIS, where he focuses on the topics of wireless, ultra-reliable, low latency and deterministic networks for industrial applications.
Seppo Yrjölä (Nokia)
Techno-economic systems thinking in 6G
Professor Seppo Yrjölä holds a Doctor of Science (Technology) degree in Telecommunications Engineering and a Doctor of Science (Economics) degree in International Business from the University of Oulu. He is a Full Professor (Part-time) at the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, University of Oulu in the field of techno-economics.
Professor Yrjölä is a Principal Engineer at Nokia Enterprise with over 36 years of experience in radio technology research, development, innovation, and business development. He previously served as Head of Wireless Technology for the Networks division at Nokia. He has secured over 10 million euros in competitive research funding as the lead investigator, authored over 150 scientific publications, and holds several patents in the radio domain.
Professor Yrjölä's research is interdisciplinary, encompassing technology, business, and regulatory aspects. He is current mission is digitalizing the remaining 70% of GDP to drive significant productivity growth, foster new business opportunities, and empower individuals.
